Final Draft of Front Cover.

This is the final draft that i have created for my front cover and this is the design that i am going to go with. I am going with this draft because it looks unique and everything just seems to fall into place very well. I am now going to upload all of the photographs that i have taken for my full coursework project. I well then post the four photographs which i think are the best and that i am going to use for my front cover, contents page and double page spread.

Photos taken.

The following 14 photos are ones that i have taken of my friend who is called Ben. The reason i asked Ben if i could take photos of him for my magazine is because i think his photos represent the target audiance very well. Ben is into Rock and Heavy Metal music and i think his overall appearance fits the music genre that i have chose really well. I used certain props in the photos such as guitars, bandanas and drum sticks.

Second Draft of Front Cover.

This is the second draft that i have done for my front cover.

First Draft of Front Cover.

This is the first draft for my front cover. I am going to do two more drafts with the third one being my final front cover design that i am going to work from.

Colour Scheme / House style.

I am going to keep the colour scheme and house style the same throughout my magazine front cover, contents page and double page spread to make is consistent  which will make the magazine noticeable and stand out. The three main colours that i am going to use in my magazine is going to be black, white and gold. Similar to the Classic Rock magazine which i analysed earlier in my research.

Price of Magazine / How often it will be published.

Price of Magazine / How often it will be Published.

My magazine will be priced at £3.99 and will be published on a monthly basis which will feature around 140 pages. By having the price at £3.99 it makes the magazine affordable to all social classes. I also think that it is cheaper for the audience to purchase a magazine on a monthly basis because they will only be paying £3.99 per month. Were as if my magazine was going to be published on a weekly basis it wouldnt be made with the best quality paper etc. It would also cost probably around £2.30. £2.30 does sound cheap for a magazine that is published on a weekly basis but when you add the four weeks in a month it comes to around £9.20 per month and would only feature between 50 and 60 pages per issue. So by having my music magazine published monthly it will be benifical to the target audience because i will be saving them money and the magazine will feature more pages and will also be made with high quality resources. It will feature the latest news for the specific month in which it is released. Telling the audiance about all of the upcoming heavy metal and rock bands gigs, tours and concerts. My magazine is going to have a consistent housestyle to make it look recognisable and easy to notice.

Target Audience for my Music Magazine.

Target Audience for my Music Magazine.

The target audience for my music magazine is going to be for people of most ages probably from ages 18 and up because the two specific genres that i have chosen are enjoyed and listened to by an audience of all ages which gives a much larger audience level than most other magazines. The magazine will obviously be for people who are fans of the heavy metal and rock music genre. It will feature articles and stories that the audiance will find interesting and enjoy reading. Which will most likley make them want to buy then next issue that gets released.

Friday 10 December 2010

Chosen Genre.

Chosen Genre

The genre I have chosen to use for my music magazine task is heavy metal / rock as I explained in my re-search. I have chosen this genre of music because I asked one of my friends if he would like to be the main artist for my magazine and he is into the heavy metal / rock genre of music, which will be relevant for his appearance within the magazine. I have already taken a variety of photos of him for my front cover, contents page and double page spread which I will publish later. The other reason why I chose the heavy metal / rock genre is because it has a large target audience and an excessive variety of different bands that I can use as sub headlines which will stand out and make the audience want to buy.

Third analysis of Music Magazine Double Page Spread.

Third analysis of Music Magazine Double Page Spread.

This is going to be the third and last of three music magazine double page spreads that I am going to analyse as part of my music magazine re-search, this will help me in the step by step process in producing my own music magazine double page spread. The three music magazine double page spreads that I am going to analyse are going to be of the same genre that I have chose to base my music magazine on which is heavy metal / rock. The third music magazine double page spread that I am going to analyse is going to be from the issue of “NME“. I will analyse the double page spread using the LIIAR technique.

Language - NME magazine has a double page spread to introduce the main artist featured in the issue of the magazine. In this issue of NME the main band / artist that is featured in the magazine and is on the double page spread is rock band The Chapman Family. The image on this double page spread is on the left page and the image is taken at a long shot because we can see all of the band members clearly. While the focus is on the band members, plenty of background detail still emerges for example the lamp, mirror and the stair case etc. The photograph for this double page spread was pre-planned and the band are posing in a particular way to fit the scene that they are in. The photograph was not taken during a live event. The masthead on this double page spread quite simply says "The Chapman Family", it is in a large white font and takes up just under one third of the page. It also contrasts well with the photograph which it has being placed on due to darker features on the photograph, making the masthead stand out. The photo and the text in the masthead work really well together and create a young persons " nomal feeling ", which is being layed back and casual, also reflecting the band which the article is based on. On the page on the right is were the article is, it is in a black font and thier is a plain white background to make the text clear to read. There is also an interesting pull quote on this page in a much larger and bolder font to draw the readers attention and to make them carry on reading.

Institution - NME magazine is published by a publishing company called Bauer.

Ideology - The ideology in this double page spread is to interview the featured band / artist for this issue of NME which is rock band The Chapman Family. The ideology is to produce and interesting article which the audience can sit and enjoy.

Audience - The audience for this double page spread is for people who enjoy listening to the rock music genre and especially for those people who are huge fans of The Chapman Family. NME magazine is priced at £2.30 per issue and is released on a weekly basis so it will be affordable for most people.

Representation - When looking at the representational features on this double page spread. Its main target is that the featured band / artist for this article represents the target audience, it represents what the target audience for the magazine aspire to be like. So for this double page spread The Chapman Family fit the correct target audience due to being a rock band and you wouldnt find a double page spread article on them in  opera genre magazine for example. Synergy is used within this double page spread by having The Chapman Family's article featured in it. They have thousands of fans around the world which will help NME to sell the magazine, in return NME have had an article written up for the band which is posotive and gives aspects of society back to the target audience. NME help to promote The Chapman family's upcoming tours and gigs etc.

Second analysis of Music Magazine Double Page Spread.

Second analysis of Music Magazine Double Page Spread.

This is going to be the second of three music magazine double page spreads that I am going to analyse as part of my music magazine re-search, this will help me in the step by step process in producing my own music magazine double page spread. The three music magazine double page spreads that I am going to analyse are going to be of the same genre that I have chose to base my music magazine on which is heavy metal / rock. The second music magazine double page spread that I am going to analyse is going to be from an issue of Kerrang magazine. I will analyse the double page spread using the LIIAR technique.

Language – Kerrang magazine has a double page spread to introduce the main artist in the issue of this magazine. In this issue of  Kerrang the main band / artist that the magazine is based on is famous rock band “My chemical romance”. The main image on this double page spread is of Gerard Way who is the lead vocalist in My chemical romance. His picture is taken at a mid shot so we can see the detail and emotion that he feels whilst he is singing. This photo was not taken during a live concert. It was taken in a studio for this specific article and has being planned. The publishing company for Kerrang will have asked Gerard Way to pose like this holding the microphone to create the perfect main image for the double page spread. There are three other photos on this double page spread which were also pre planned and taken at the bands recording studio. We know that all of the photos were taken in the recording studio because underneath the masthead there is a subheading which says “MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE INVITE KERRANG! TO THEIR RECORDING STUIDO…”  which gives the reader an idea on what this article is going to be about. The three smaller photos are all taken at three different camera shots. The one on the left is taken at a medium close up shot. The one in the middle is taken at a high angled mid shot and the one on the right is taken at a close up and shows Gerard Way singing. The pull quote which is featured on this double page spread which is a short quote taken from what the band has said is in capital letters and alternates between a white font and a red font. It reads “WE’RE BEING THE BEST MCR CAN BE!”. The pull quote stands out and contrasts well with the black background. It also make the audience want to carry on reading the article because they want to know why the band says that they are being the best that they can be? The masthead is positioned at the top of the left page and says “ WORLD EXCLUSIVE “, the text is in white and is placed on a red background to show a consistent house style on the page because all the text on this double page spread is in either red or white and the backgrounds used are in black to help the font colours stand out and be noticeable.

Institution - The institution for Kerrang magazine is a publishing company called Bauer. Although Bauer are the institution for NME magazine. NME is for a much older target audience and Kerrang is for the younger audience. So Bauer wont be eating into their own budget due to the different audiences for both magazines.

Ideology – The ideology on this double page spread is to interview the featured band / artist for this magazine which is rock band My chemical romance. The ideology is to produce an interesting article which the audience can sit and enjoy. It needs to be as interesting as possible and needs to give out positive and true information.

Audience - The audience for this double page spread in Kerrang magazine is for the younger generation probably between the ages of 16 and 22 who enjoy listening to the rock music of today, especially those fans of My chemical romance. Kerrang is released on a weekly basis and is priced at £2.20 so most people can afford to but it on a weekly basis and is aimed at both males and females.

Representation – When looking at representation on this double page spread. Its main aim is that the featured artist on the double page represents the target audience that the magazine is aimed at. It is no good featuring a pop band on a double page spread of a rock magazine. In this case My chemical romance are a rock band, therefore they represent the target audience because they are a rock band in a rock music genre magazine. My chemical romance are helping Kerrang sell their magazine which is another use of synergy because in return Kerrang have a fantastic article on the band on a double page spread of their magazine.

Third analysis of Music Magazine Contents Page.

Third analysis of Music Magazine Contents Page.

This is going to be the third and last of three music magazine contents pages that I am going to analyse as part of my music magazine re-search, this will help me in the step by step process in producing my own music magazine contents page. The three music magazine covers that I am going to analyse are going to be of the same genre that I have chose to base my music magazine on which is heavy metal / rock. The third  music magazine contents page that I am going to analyse is going to be from an issue of “Kerrang“ magazine. I will analyse the cover using the LIIAR technique.

Language - The contents page in this issue of Kerrang features a number of images and photographs which are relevent to what articles are going to be featured inside this issue of the Kerrang magazine. The largest photo on this contents page is of rock band "You me at six" and thier photo is taken at a medium shot so that we can see al three band member clearly and feel thier expressions. There is then eight other photos on the contents page of other rock bands and artists. Three of the photos are also taken at a medium shot. There is then four other photos which are at a medium close up shot so we can see clear detail in thier facial expressions and then the other photo is of an album cover which is going to be promoted in the magazine. There is a masthead which says "Contents" to tell the reader that this is the contents page, it is in a yellow font with a black background and even though it is not the biggest masthead it is still very noticeable due to the use of colour. Yellow and black is used for all sub headings including the page numbers which direct the viewer to a particular page that an artists article is featured on. All page numbers are clearly visible and next to them they have a brief descrption or pull quote to make the reader go and read the article. Kerrang magazine use a consistent house style on all of thier contents pages and front covers. The main colours used within the magazine are yello, black and white as you can see on this specific contents page. This is to make the magazine look noticable and easy to spot. It gives the magazine its own unique look. On the contents pages in all issues that Kerrang release, the masthead stays in the same place along with the positioning of the photos and text which is an other example of consistancy within the house style of the magazine. On the right side of the contents page there is a list of more page numbers directing the reader to different pages in the magazine. The text used here is also clearly visible as the black font contrast with the white background. Also by having each individual subheading in a yellow font with a black bacground i clearly shows the audiance what each article is about whether it is just about general news or album reviews etc.

Institution - The institution for Kerrang magazine is a publishing company called Bauer. Although Bauer are the institution for NME magazine. NME is for a much older target audiance and Kerrang is for the younger audiance. So Bauer wont be eating into thier own budget due to the different audiances for both magazines.

Ideology - The ideology in this contents page is to navigate the audiance around the magazine showing them what articles and stories are on each particular page in the magazine. By making the contents page interesting, it makes the audiance carry on reading because they are interested to see what is going to be featured inside a particluar article that they want to look at.

Audiance - The audiance for Kerrang magazine is for the younger generation probably between the ages of 16 and 22 who enjoy listening to the rock music of today. Kerrang is released on a weekly basis and is priced at £2.20 so most people can afford to but it on a weekly basis and is aimed at both males and females.

Representation - The photographs featured on this contents page represent the rock music genre. The bands are representing aspects of society back to the audiance. The audiance want to be just like them, they look upto some of these people and they aspire to be just like them. This sells the magazine which is another example of synergy. The bands and artist on this contents page are helping Bauer and Kerrang to sell the magazine and Bauer and Kerrang are featuring articles on the artist and bands inside the magazine promoting thier upcoming album releases, tours and gigs etc.

First analysis of Music Magazine Double Page Spread.

First analysis of Music MagazineDouble Page Spread.

This is going to be the first of three music magazine double page spreads that I am going to analyse as part of my music magazine re-search, this will help me in the step by step process in producing my own music magazine double page spread. The three music magazine double page spreads that I am going to analyse are going to be of the same genre that I have chose to base my music magazine on which is heavy metal / rock. The first music magazine double page spread that I am going to analyse is going to be from the issue of “Metal Hammer “ which i have already analysed both the cover and contents page for already as part of my re-search. I will analyse the double page spread using the LIIAR technique.

Language - Metal Hammer magazine has a double page spread to introduce the main artist in the issue of the magazine, in this particular issue of Metal Hammer the main band / artist focused on is Avenged Sevenfold because they are featured on the cover as we saw earlier in my re-search. The main image on this double page spread, is of Synyster Gates who is the lead guitarist in heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold. He is crouched down on a bass drum and there is a tall building in the background and grey clouds which gives the impression that he is unstoppable and that there is nobody else out there like him. The use of dark colours in the backgrounds gives the feeling that he is in a heavy metal band because we assosiate heavy metal with darker colours. On the page on the right with the article on a white background is used to contrast with the page on the left side because it is much darker. It also helps the black and grey text used on the page stand out due to the white background. There is a large masthead on the top of the page telling the viewer what the featured article on this page is going to be about. The masthead reads " 2009 was the year that everything changed for AVENGED SEVENFOLD". The masthead leaves a unanswered question for the audiance because they will be interested to see why 2009 changed the band forever? There is a pull quote featured on the right page of the double page spread for this magazine aswell which says "When Jimmy passed away, the first thought about the band was ' its over' " A pull quote is a main quote from the article that has been made into a mini subheading of its own to make the audiance carry on reading.

Institution - Metal Hammer is a music magazine that is published by a company called Future Publishing, which in 2006 was the sixth largest publishing company in the United Kingdom. Metal Hammer is release a new issue of thier magazine on a monthly basis.

Ideology - The ideology featured in this double page spread is to interview the featured band and artist for this magazine, as shown in my earlier re-search Avenged Sevenfold are the featured artist within this particular issue of Metal Hammer. The ideology is to get as much infomation out to the target audiance as possible. The article featured on Avenged Sevenfold needs to be interesting and infomative giving the reader a great article to read which they can enjoy and take in what is being said within the article.

Audiance - This issue of Metal Hammer, appeals to a specific target audience which is those who have a keen interest and enjoying listening to the heavy metal music genre. Due to the magazine being released on a monthly basis updating the target audiance with latest news in the heavy metal world. It is priced at £3.99 which is reasonable price because most of the audiance who like buying Metal Hammer magazine wont mind paying £3.99 on a monthly basis.

Representation - When looking at the representational features on the double page spread in this magazine. Its main aim is that the image on the double page spread of the magazine represents the target audience, it represents what the target audience aspire to be like. Which for this magazine it has Avenged Sevenfol member Synyster Gates on the double page spread and it represents the target audience really well because Avenged Sevenfold are a modern day heavy metal band who are enjoyed by millions of people around the world, which sells the magazine. they are presenting aspects of society back to us in a positive way.

Second analysis of Music Magazine Contents Page.

Second analysis of Music Magazine Contents Page.

This is going to be the second and of three music magazine contents pages that I am going to analyse as part of my music magazine re-search, this will help me in the step by step process in producing my own music magazine contents page. The three music magazine covers that I am going to analyse are going to be of the same genre that I have chose to base my music magazine on which is heavy metal / rock. The second  music magazine contents page that I am going to analyse is going to be from an issue of “NME“ magazine. I will analyse the cover using the LIIAR technique.

Language – The contents page in this issue of NME is relevant to what is going to be featured in the magazine. The contents page features relevant images and photographs directing the reader to the page which the specific bands article is featured on. There are two photographs on this contents page which are taken at a medium full shot. The photographs are in medium full shot to show the full expressions that the artists are feeling whilst they are performing. The two photos featured on the contents page are of artists who perform rock music which shows what type of music genre this magazine is. All main features on the contents page such as the masthead, sub headings, text and colours etc are positioned in the same place on all issues that NME release of their magazine. This is to keep a consistent house style and to make the magazine look noticeable. The three main colours used on this contents page is red, black and white. It gives the magazine its own unique look. The way things are positioned on the contents page will stay the same, but the images and text used will change to fit the articles featured in the magazine. There is a masthead positioned at the top left of the contents page with the magazine logo NME. The masthead on this contents page is positioned in the same place as the masthead on the front cover of all issues of NME magazine, as show in my earlier re-search when I analysed a front cover of NME. There is text to the right of the masthead in large capital letters which says “THIS WEEK”, even though there is no text on the contents page which says “contents” its is clearly shown to the reader that this is the contents page having the text “THIS WEEK” clearly visible at the top of the page. There is a band index which runs along the left hand side of the contents page showing the reader which pages within the magazine they can find their favourite bands and artists on. The font colour is black and contrasts with the white background making the font clearly visible. There are also several subheadings on the right side of the contents page which are in a white font and are in capital letters with a black border and background around them also making them clearly visible. It also tells the reader what they can expect to see within the magazine contents.

Institution – The institution for NME magazine is a publishing company called Bauer, which is a large German publishing company based in Hamburg as I said earlier in my re-search when I analysed the front cover of a NME magazine. Institution is also used by featuring rock band Oasis in the photographs on the contents page. By Oasis allowing “NME”  to use them as the main band featured within the issue of this magazine, it helps “NME” sell thousands of copies of this particular issue that he is featured on and in return “NME” have a write up for featured in the magazine on Oasis promoting his upcoming tour and gigs etc, this is called synergy, were both sides are helping each other out.

Ideology – The Ideology in this contents page is to navigate and show the reader what articles and stories are going to be featured inside the issue of this magazine. By giving a positive influence and attitude to the articles that the viewer will read in this magazine, it makes them want to read on because the contents page has made the magazine seem interesting.

Audience – The audience for this magazine and its contents page, is for an audience who are inspired and enjoy listening to the rock music genre because it is a rock based magazine.

Representation – The two photographs that are on this contents page represent the rock music genre. These photos were not planned and were taken during a live event by a professional photographer. The bands on the contents page are representing aspects of society back to us the viewer. This is an example of synergy, by having several bands who the target audience idolise on the cover it helps the company sell their magazine and the magazine company are helping the particular bands and artists promote their upcoming tours and gigs etc.

Third analysis of Music Magazine Cover.

Third analysis of Music Magazine Cover.

This is going to be the third and last of three music magazine covers that I am going to analyse as part of my music magazine re-search, this will help me in the step by step process in producing my own music magazine cover. The three music magazine covers that I am going to analyse are going to be of the same genre that I have chose to base my music magazine on which is heavy metal / rock. The last music magazine cover that I am going to analyse is going to be an issue of “Classic Rock“. I will analyse the cover using the LIIAR technique.

Language – On the cover of this issue of “Classic Rock” the masthead is positioned at the top of the cover and is spread across the entire width of the page. The masthead stands out incredibly well because the font colour is white and the main background colour on the cover is black, contrasting the two colours together it gives the masthead a feeling as though it is important especially the way the word “Rock” is the largest piece of text on the cover and the word “Classic” which is also featured in a white font, is spelt in capital letters with stars positioned on both sides. There is also a small slogan featured underneath the letter “R” which says “HIGH VOLTAGE ROCK ‘N’ ROLL”. I think it is clever the way that they have worded the slogan, it is like a statement. When thinking of high voltage the first thing that comes to mind is electrical power, which could be describing an electrical guitar, the power and the unstoppable force that a guitarist feels when they are playing their guitar brings out high voltage and the “rock ‘n’ roll” in the slogan is put in there because the genre for this magazine is rock music. The main image featured on the cover, is of guitarist James Hetfield who is a member of famous rock band Metallica. His picture has been taken at a medium long shot. With this shot we can still see the expression on James Hetfield’s Face, while getting more information from what is going on around him. By having James Hetfield on the cover of this magazine, because of his huge success and because he is known by almost all rock music genre fans, it will make the audience for this particular music genre want to buy this magazine due the huge success that he has had in his music career. He is a role model to most rock and Metallica fans, they all want to be just like him. Seeing him on the cover shows he is a huge role model in the rock world. This is also shown by his body language on the cover. He isn’t stood normally, he is stood looking down at his guitar and has both arms spread out equally, as though all the adrenaline is rushing through his body. Also by the way he is standing it looks as though he is untouchable, like there is no other person out there like him. There is also a catch subheading positioned underneath the Metallica logo, it says “THE 1000 DAYS THAT CHANGED THEM FOREVER”. This will make most fans of Metallica to buy this issue of the magazine because they will be interested to see what happened during the 1000 days that changed them forever and they know there will be a huge article on this story within the contents of the magazine. Classic Rock magazine has a consistent house style by using gold, black and white colours on the cover of the magazine. They will use the same font and position the masthead in the same place on all issues that they release. This is to make the magazine noticeable and easy to spot.

Institution – Classic Rock is published by a company called Future Publishing. As you may notice, Future Publishing are also the main producers for Metal Hammer magazine which I analysed earlier in my re-search and I said that Future Publishing only produce one magazine of a specific genre so they don’t eat into their own budget. However Metal Hammer magazine and Classic Rock magazine are two different genres. Metal Hammer focuses more on heavy metal music, whereas Classic Rock music genre is classic rock which is ironic because that is the name of the magazine. Synergy is used in the institution for this magazine. Metallica and lead guitarist James Hetfield have allowed Future Publishing and Classic Rock to feature them on the cover of their magazine. Which will help Future Publishing make lots of money because it will sell thousands of copies of this issue. In return Future Publishing are helping Metallica and James Hetfield out by letting them be on the cover of the Classic Rock magazine and they will have a positive article written about them inside the issue.

Ideology - The ideology on this magazine cover, are the messages, morals and values that the company/magazine has. Classic Rock magazine, their ideology is to get the latest information and news from the classic rock music genre out on a monthly basis. They want to ensure that the audience who purchase this months issue of the magazine, will come back again next month and purchase the newest release with the newest news and information featured in it.

Audience – Classic Rock appeals to a specific target audience. The target audience for the magazine is for an audience who like to listen to and enjoy classic rock music. When you first look at the cover most people will be able to tell that it is aimed at a classic rock target audience even without looking at the masthead because the cover looks modern and old fashioned. It doesn’t use bright colours because we associate classic rock with black, gold and white hence the reason they are the three main colours used on the cover. Classic Rock magazine is priced at £4.50 which may seem expensive for a magazine but it is only released on a monthly basis. Due to this magazine mainly being aimed at people over the age of 40 as it features classic rock music. I think most people over that age wont mind paying £4.50 for a magazine on a monthly basis. So I think that £4.50 is a reasonable price for this particular magazine.

Representation - When looking at the representational features on the cover of this magazine. Its main aim is that the image on the cover of the magazine represents the target audience, it represents what the target audience aspire to be like. Which for this magazine it has Metallica member James Hetfield on the cover and it represents the target audience really well because Metallica have been active since the 1980s. Metallica have millions of fans around the world, which sells the magazine. they are presenting aspects of society back to us in a positive way. This is another use of synergy. Metallica are helping to sell the magazine due to their main role in this issue and Classic Rock magazine are helping them out by featuring a fantastic article inside on the band whilst also promoting their upcoming tours and concerts etc.

First analysis of Music Magazine Contents Page.

This is going to be the first of three music magazine contents pages that i am going to analyse as part of my music magazine re-search. This will help me in the step by step process in producing my own music magazine contents page. The three contents pages that i am going to analyse are going to beof the same genre that i have chose to base my music magazine on which is heavy metal / rock. The first music magazine contents page that i am going to analyse is going to be the contents page featured inside the issue of "Metal Hammer" which i analysed the cover of earlier in my re-search. I will analyse the contents page using the LIIAR technique

Language - The contents page in this issue of Metal Hammer is relevent to what is going to be featured in the magazine. The contents page features relevent images of different bands directing the reader to a the page which the specific bands article is featured on. Most of the images are taken at mid shot or medium close up, this allows the viewer to see all of the band members clearly and see thier expressions. All of the images on the contents page are of heavy metal bands which shows that the genre for the magazine is heavy metal. Were the images are positioned on the contents page will stay the same in each issue to show consistancy, however the bands which are in the images will obviously change. There is a masthead positioned at the top left of the contents page. There is the logo followed by the word "Contents" to show the reader that this is the contents page and then there is the month that the issue was released which is July and also the year that the magazine was released which was 2010. The word "contents" in the masthead stands out clearly because it is in a black font and contrasts well with the white background. The contents page has a consistent housestyle, for example they use the same font, font size and font colour for all subheadings. The contents list which runs along the left side of the contents page also has a consistent housestyle, all page numbers are clearly marked and are in the same font and font colour which is red. The contents page features three main colours which are black, red and white. These three colours go well together because they all help each other stand out, this also makes the contents page easy to read even if the reader doesnt have the best of eye sights. Each subheading also features a brief paragraph telling the reader what they can expect to see on that particular page.

Institution - The institution for Metal Hammer magazine is a publishing company called "Future Publishing". Thier institution is to make the audiance who purchase the magazine to buy the next issue which is published on a monthly basis. The publishing company have to make the contents of the magazine sound interesting. This will make the reader want to purchase the heavy metal genre music magazine that they published because it is the best out there.

Ideology - The ideology in this contents page is to navigate and show the reader what articles and stories are going to be featured inside the issue of this magazine. By giving a positive influence and attitude to the fantastic articles that the viewer will read in this magazine, it makes them want to read on because the contents page has made the magazine seem interesting.

Audiance - The audiance for this magazine and its contents page, is for an audiance who have a keen interest and enjoying listening to heavy metal music. Just by looking at the contents page you can tell that it is from a heavy metal magazine because of the images of heavy metal bands, the colours used and the unusual text used on the contents page.

Representation - All photographs and images that are on this contents page represent heavy metal, which is the music magazines genre. These images were planned and were not taken during a live concert. The bands have actually gone into a photography studio to have thier photos taken proffesionally for this magazine. These images were taken in a specific way to match the genre of the magazine. The bands on the contents page are representing aspects of society back to us the viewer. This is an example of synergy, by having several bands who the target audiacne idolise on the cover it helps the company sell their magazine and the magazine company are helping the particular bands and artists promote their upcoming tours and gigs etc.
